A Guide To Healthy Living
I used to read every article on health that came out, but lately I’ve given this up as a bad habit. Most people who know me would probably have said I was a health freak. You see, staying fit and healthy after being as grossly overweight as I was is understandable but if you are not careful you exchange one obsession with another.
I just had to keep up to date with every new exercise workout, diet ideas and supplements to help prolong my life. That’s all changed now though because when I read an article on health now I just get angry because they keep changing their minds about what is good or bad for you. You never know what to believe a prime example was that about the benefits of soy which was heavily promoted one day then ridiculed the next for being responsible for food allergies, amongst others. Finding the best diet and exercise regime that keeps me fit and well for as long as possible is the only goal I have but it is a problem.
You see it becomes very confusing when each and every article on health you read has a different answer to the same problem. Until recently, alcohol was thought of as bad for you, as were chocolate, and coffee. Now it turns out that wine is good for you, beer is good for you provided it is dark beer, chocolate is good for you if it is dark chocolate, and even coffee has been found to have some health benefits when used in moderation. Tomorrow, they will be saying that ice cream and cheesecake are the best options for creating a low cholesterol diet!
What I have finally figured out at such great pains is that, ultimately, my own life is my own responsibility. They have lost the right to tell me how to live but I suppose I’ll still read the odd article on health from time to time.
Still, I don’t doubt that reading the odd article on health will be worthwhile because I can pick up some good exercise tips and how to eat a balanced diet, the rest will be up to me. It all comes down to this; I need to do what feels right for me, so if I can do this, I can live a healthier, happier, and longer life.
