Protecting yourself from the sun
Everyone loves a glowing tan, and we also know that getting a genuine tan (by that I mean through rays, not sprays) is far nicer than via the fake channels. There ensues our desire for hot beach holidays, where we can spend the time delicately building up this tan. However sometimes delicate is not the word, more like burning, dangerous over-exposure is more fitting.
We are continuously informed of the dangers the sun can have on our skin and our health, as well as the positive, there is also a real risk if we do not protect ourselves properly.
Sun cream is there for a reason, and if we choose to ignore it, we do so at our own risk. It is there to protect and help us stay safe in the hot sun. Often we are so keen to get that holiday tan that we think oh we’ll leave off the sun cream, burn and then it’ll turn brown. What people seem to skim over is the damaging affect this has on your skin. The UV rays are harmful to our skin, and although at the time we may gain a healthy glow, in the long run it can cause all sorts of problems.
Not looking after oneself in the sun can cause all sorts of problems such as burning, blistering, dehydration and sunstroke. However the most deadly of risks the sun poses is that of skin cancer. Skin cancer is deadly and to be cured it needs to be spotted in the early stages. It can be spotted through changes in moles and blemishes on the surface of the skin. Anything that looks unusual and that has changed should be checked out to be on the safe side.
So the moral of the story is to slap on that sun cream. Vanity doesn’t matter if you’re facing death and so don’t let the desire for a tan overtake your safety. Avoid the sunshine at its strongest – midday and cover yourself up if you have fair skin or quite a few moles.
