Whiten Your Teeth, Brighten Your Smile

April 29th, 2010

You could achieve a more beautiful smile with Tooth whitening.

Because we aren’t happy with the appearance of our teeth, we may not have the beautiful smile we’d really like. There are many causes for teeth discoloration, including frequent consumption of substances like coffee, tea and red wine. And some people just aren’t born with pearly whites.

You might be thinking about whitening your teeth if they have stains on them, or not as white as you want them to be. Age can also be a reason your teeth are discolored. A whiter smile can actually make you appear years younger.

If you decide to whiten your teeth, start by visiting with your dentist. Molds will be made of both your upper and lower teeth. These impressions will be sent to a laboratory.

A cast will actually be made from the models which will exactly replicate your teeth. Using this cast, a tray is fabricated using a plastic material. Once the trays are finished, they are returned to the dentist.

When the trays are received, your dentist will teach you how exactly to use them and what to put in them. The process is simple: whitening gel is squirted into the areas of the trays that match the teeth you want whitened. These trays will next be put inside your mouth while you are sleeping.

You continue this process until the level of whitening you desire is reached. Usually, the majority of patients get instant results, and this procedure can be finished up within two to three weeks. Some patients have tetracycline discoloration or fleurosis in the rare situation; these take longer term remedies of as long as two to six months.

It is usually recommended that the patient wait for a good two weeks or more to give the color a chance to stabilize when the patient plans to continue additional restoration procedures following the whitening. Most people only need one treatment for the desired whitening. Studies done on the long-term effects of teeth whitening show that many patients still had white teeth years after the treatments.

Some people will have some degree of sensitivity in the beginning of, or at some point into, the treatment. This sensitiviy is not unbearable, and will not contine after treatment has been completed. In these cases, however, the use of Sensodyne toothpaste has been found to be effective.

As an alternative to a dentist visit, there are a number of over the counter teeth whitening products which have been proven to be safe. It is questionable if they can achieve the same degree of whitening. With the over the counter products, you will not see a huge improvement in your discolored teeth, but you may see some slight stain reduction.

It is suggested that you seek out an at-home kit that contains plastic strips or a mold-able mouth tray. You can get a the desired custom fit with these, but they can be expensive.

After you finish whitening your teeth, you must stay away from those things that can negatively impact your tooth color. Cigarettes, red wine, tea and coffee are among these. You should consult with your dentist in the cases of feeling intense sensitivity or discomfort when using these kits, or if you see significant irritation of your gums.

April 7th, 2010

Sedation dentistry should be done by an experienced dentist and staff with the proper training like the people at Nashua Sedation Dentistry. If you tend to be a person who is anxious or claustrophobic about dental visits you might want to take a look at this branch of dentistry.

They also will have medication on hand to reverse the effects of a drug in case you have a bad reaction to it.

Oral sedation allows the patient to stay awake during the procedure and most patients have no recollection of the visit after it is over. Nitrous oxide elevates ones tolerance for pain and with this a local anesthetic is also used in the gums to numb them. A local anesthetic will temporarily block pain.

To achieve a moderate level of sedation you may be asked to take an oral medication before you arrive at your appointment. This will alleviate the awareness of what you are experiencing. Ask for a ride to the appointment as you will be unable to drive yourself safely.

Insurance most likely will not cover the sedation part of this type of dental visit but they will cover the actual work on your teeth as per your specific dental plan.

San Francisco Dentistry Experiments With New Procedures

April 7th, 2010

The hassle and the cost of replacing missing teeth are almost too much to bear these days. Thankfully, a San Francisco dentistry group that provides new dental implants to locals is helping the process become more affordable and worthwhile for your smile. Dental implants are a definite development in dentistry, and a definition of these smile-saving items is now in order.

Dental implants are devices placed where a dead root may cause jaw bone loss. Tooth loss is caused by the roots of teeth becoming dead, and therefore rotting the tooth as well. This usually requires a root canal, where the dead root is snipped from the tooth, and a false tooth is placed over the remainder of the dead one. However, with this revolution in medicine, those who usually require root canals, crowns, or dentures all based around dead teeth, may be able to have a dental implant instead.

Serious jaw surgery can be avoided with the implantation of these dental devices. They are used as anchors to attach a tooth replacement. You can even replace entire sets of teeth! The process is easy to go through, and they can be done within an hour, on the same day. Furthermore, you can save time and money using dental implants instead of regular crowns, caps, or dentures.

This procedure costs less money than the average dental procedure, as they are a lifetime guarantee. Instead of having to continually replace these teeth, you can have them for the rest of your life. The procedure takes less than an area, depending on the amount of teeth missing, and is relatively painless.

If you are looking for this type of service in the San Francisco Bay area, look up Smile Implants. These are one of the leading dental implant professionals in the area, and they can help make your implants affordable.

Some San Francisco dentistry groups provide new dental implants to locals, such as Smile Implants. However, you can find dental implants in your area as well. Investigate into your options, and you can receive a smile that is lifetime-guaranteed.

What Is Diastema And How Can You Fix Gap Teeth?

March 30th, 2010

The vast majority of people do not have perfect teeth which is why cosmetic dentistry is a lucrative field of dentistry. Fortunately, there are a wide variety of teeth problems that can now be repaired so that one can improve or enhance their appearance. One such dental condition that can be repaired is Diastema.

Diastema is a medical term used to describe a space or gap between two teeth. All mammals can have diastema, but in people, it is normally referred to as a space or gap between the two front teeth (upper incisors.) This condition develops when there is an uneven correlation between the size of the teeth and the jaw. Diastema will often occur in children as their primary teeth come out. A frequent cause of diastema in adults is when there is an incorrect fit between the upper jaw and lower jaw which is a condition known as malocclusion.

Another cause of diastema is when a person has a short labial frenum. Located around the inside of the upper lip, the labial frenum is a piece of tissue that supports the upper lip near the teeth. If the tissue is too short, diastema can develop. As well, if teeth are too small or large in relation to the jaw which causes dental misalignment, diastema can occur. If you have an oversized labial frenum, a Periodontist can repair the problem by performing a minor surgical procedure called a Labial Frenectomy. This medical procedure involves cutting the frenum and then repositioning it to permit more flexibility.

For people who have been diagnosed as having diastema, there are a number of treatments available to them. People can have Orthodontic treatment to move the teeth and close the diastema. They can have porcelain veneers bonded to the outside of the teeth to close the gap. They can also get a Crown or dental implants (replacement of teeth.) As well, a person can get braces to close the gap. An inexpensive choice is to use Teeth Effect Bands which are elastic bands. This method makes use of a band that is similar to a rubber band. The band is wrapped around the teeth that are located on each side of the gap. As one wear the band, the teeth are ultimately pulled together which effectively seals and close gap in teeth for good. There is also the bonding method which involves applying a plastic bonding agent (white filling) that is fitted according to the desired shape and position. A special light is used on the bonding agent to harden it.

We all want our teeth to their best; however, some people have conditions that cause them to feel insecure about their smile. Fortunately, incredible advancements in cosmetic surgery have allowed people to get a variety of teeth problems repaired. If you have diastema, you can either keep the condition, or undergo a repair procedure to close the gap. Many people such as the singer Madonna are happy with the space between their teeth so the decision to close the gap comes down to personal preference. You will know by how comfortable you feel when you look in the mirror and smile. When considering repairing diastema, you should consult with your dentist to learn about your options and the costs of each method of repair.
