I care about my skin and I am always looking for new methods to make it better. When I was a teenager I had bad acne. Now I am twenty-five and my skin has straightened out. But because I had acne when I was young I am afraid to use skincare products that may clog my pores. There are a lot of skincare products and moisturizer products on the market that claim to not clog pores. But the list of ingredients on most moisturizer products contain compounds that sound harsh for the skin. So I usually look for skincare products and moisturizer that contain all-natural ingredients and have been used by people for a very long time.

The most natural skincare products and moisturizers were used by ancient civilizations. Not surprisingly most skin moisturizers were made with herbs. Ancient peoples did not have modern technology to work with. They were forced to make do with plants and plant oils for many common items including skincare products. The ancient Egyptians were some of the first people to popularize skincare and moisturizer. Egyptian elite used pumice stone as an early skincare product for exfoliation. Skincare was important to ancient Egyptians because archaeologists have uncovered pots in royal tombs used for storing beauty ointments and moisturizer.

The ancient Greeks and Romans used skincare techniques from the Egyptians and expanded on them. The Greeks related beauty and skincare with proper diet and exercise. Diet is still considered fundamental for good skin today. I take my diet serious for a multiplicity of reasons but especially for my skin. An abundance of water and the right foods can be the best moisturizer for your skin. The Romans loved their hair and grew plants to use as hair dyes in addition to moisturizers and skincare. They used an assortment of plants and berries to create one of the first shampoos ever. Aloe vera was used by ancient civilizations as a moisturizer and remedy for burns. In the summer I use aloe vera every time I spend a day in the sun. But it is important to avoid products that use alcohol in conjunction with aloe vera because this can make skin even drier.

Many of these ancient methods of skincare are still used in modern products. But they are repackaged with new compounds and with modern manufacturing. Current technology has made incredible advancements in skincare products and moisturizer. However I believe that people with sensitive skin like myself should stick to skincare products with the most natural and unprocessed ingredients.

I think the best moisturizer and skincare product is cacao butter. Cacao beans are the essential ingredient in chocolate and were fundamental to ancient Mesoamerican society. The Aztecs and the Mayas used cacao as currency, food, and as a royal beverage. Today cacao butter, made from cacao beans, is famous for its properties as a moisturizer and skincare product. I rub cacao butter on my entire body and it is the moisturizer I use most. Some dermatologists state that cacao butter should not be used as a facial skincare product or moisturizer because it will clog pores. However I have not had this issue and I would recommend cacao butter as the best skincare product and moisturizer.
