How To Optimize Your Cardio For Better And Healthier Fat Loss

October 27th, 2010

Although cardio shouldn’t be the focus of your fat loss program, it can serve as an effective supplement for speeding things up.

The main problem here is that many people do not implement it correctly.

So here is how to make sure cardio doesn’t delay your results:

1. Never do more than sixty minutes: Once you go above sixty minutes you will start to secrete a lot of cortisol. In other words, your cardio will become more of an endurance type of exercise. And once this happens a lot of tissue breakdown will occur.

2. Avoid overdoing high intensity cardio: If you are constantly doing high intensity cardio, you may not give your muscles enough time to repair and recover. In this case your cardio training would interfere with your resistance training.

3. Get more rest if needed: A huge mistake many people make is not getting enough rest. So make sure you get plenty of rest, especially if your body needs it. This will make it much easier for you to replenish your hormones.

4. Avoid running addictions: Cardio counts as anything that gets your heart elevated for extended periods of time. Thus, you don’t have to spend all day in the gym to get your cardio needs in. You can do cardio anywhere and in any fashion.

5. Don’t do high impact modalities: Anything that has you jumping will be very hard on your joints. So make sure you stick with low impact cardio modalities. And recall that doing cardio in the water will take virtually all stress off of your joints.

6. Do something you enjoy: You don’t have to run on a treadmill all the time. Cardio is anything that gets your heart rate elevated. You could do cardio outside, with your kids, in virtually any environment that gets your body moving.

Cardio can help speed up fat loss or it can make fat loss a nightmare. So make sure you take heed of the advice in this article!

Take Action On This List Now For Easier Fat Loss

April 9th, 2010

Stress is higher than ever, and a lack of time is more evident than ever. Changes in society are more than likely to have you stressed and on the run twenty four hours a day.

Now stress and a lack of time go hand in hand. They feed each other and build upon each other.

So here is how to reduce stress while simultaneously creating more time for dieting and weight loss goals:

1. Make a list of your top stressors: But this list shouldn’t be exhaustive. Instead, only list your top five stressors. Then, put a check mark next to the stressors that are in your sphere of influence. From here on out, you will ignore the ones without a check mark. Create a concise action plan for the check marked stressors.

2. List your open processes: Open processes or open loops will constantly drain you of mental energy and time. They are like leeches that just keep on sucking out your life blood. So make a list of the ones you can’t control and forget about them forever. Then make action items for the ones you can control.

3. Reduce barriers to easy fat loss: For instance, is all your gym gear in one bag right next to your door? Is your refrigerator stocked with a good supply of healthy food for rapid meal assembly? The more you can manipulate your environment for ease of fat loss, the more likely it is that you will succeed.

4. Focus on habits and routines, not minutiae: If you constantly focus on the small stuff, losing weight will seem like pushing a boulder up a hill. Instead, focus on general behavior changes. Eventually, you will reach a point where things become automatic.

5. Reduce addiction to stress hormones: Stress hormones are energizing and are very powerful tools when used in moderation. However, if you constantly use them and abuse them, your system will break down. In the end, you will exhaust your adrenals and have to take a lot of time off.

Knowing what to eat and how to exercise is important for losing fat. But even more important is figuring out how to de-stress your system and free up mental space. So take action on this advice right now, don’t delay!

4 Dangerous Myths About Supplements

February 28th, 2010

Do you take dietary supplements on a regular basis? If so, you are not alone since more than half of the American population takes supplements to improve their health.

After all, the American public spends billions and billions of dollars each year on a wide array of pills and powders.

Unfortunately, many of these supplements are sold with deceptive advertising. Even worse, many of these supplements are eventually pulled from the market because of health issues.

Thus, without further delay, here are common falsehoods the supplement companies don’t want you to know:

1. They don’t have side effects: Look, just because the supplement companies market their products as natural does NOT mean there are 100% safe. In fact, there are many “natural” substances that are lethal. Also, remember that a lot of supplements are super concentrated concoctions of different ingredients. Thus, at this level, the naturalness tends to fade.

2. They are backed by valid studies: Most of the sexy charts and graphs you see on the labels and advertisements are made up. You see, the bulk of the data is performed by biased entities that are directly related to the supplement companies themselves.

3. Supplement manufacturers are acting in our best interest: The bottom line is that millions and millions of dollars are spent on advertising to get you to buy. And the reality is that when so much money is involved, things can get a little out of control. Ephedra is a perfect example here. So please do not be swayed by the sexy advertising.

4. If it worked for him, it must work for me: Unfortunately, just because a supplement worked for someone else doesn’t mean it will work for you. You see, not only are our bodies very different, but the placebo effect can be the main cause of “feeling” something.

I recommend staying on the safe side here. And the best way to do this is to only take supplements that have undergone peer reviewed research. You see, peer reviewed research is the closest we can get to the truth. And with the truth you will be better informed as to what decisions are right for your health.

5 Strategies For Improving Cardiovascular Health

February 14th, 2010

Heart disease is ravaging modern society. And a lot of this is due to poor dietary patterns and insufficient exercise.

Now a lot of this is due to progress, so it’s really hard to point the finger at someone. And please do not point the finger at yourself!

So without further ado, here are some tips for keeping your circulatory system in top shape:

1. Break a sweat, but save your joints: Getting your heart rate up for extended periods of time is a great way to keep your cardiovascular system healthy. But you have to take special care of your joints. After all, once your joints wear out, you can’t get them back. So make sure you stay away from high impact activities.

2. Use some outside help: A great strategy here is to take some aspirin which will help blood get through your body with ease. It will also reduce inflammation-a leading cause of arterial disease. Now make sure you discuss taking aspirin with your doctor before making it part of your daily regimen.

3. Increase good fats: But even within good fats, some are better than others. And what most westerners are lacking are omega-3 fats. Olive oil, for instance, is not an omega-3 fat. So make sure you really stock up on walnuts, flax seed and fatty fish.

4. Keep the gaps in your teeth clean: Despite constant reminding by health care professionals, most people still do not practice proper dental hygiene. And keeping the gaps in your teeth clean (i.e., flossing) is a great way to reduce inflammation in your arteries.

5. Have some unprocessed cocoa: But be careful because may commercial formulations are loaded with sugar and fat-just what you don’t want. Instead, look for unprocessed, raw cocoa. This type of cocoa will keep your cardiovascular system nice and elastic while also providing loads of anti-oxidants.

Maintaining cardiovascular health is more important than ever. After all, modern environments seem to be having a harmful effect on our health. So take the necessary precautions today so that you can have good health tomorrow.
