Obesity May Be Caused By Glands

April 16th, 2010

It is possible that some of your glands might have contributed to your overweight body. Let us examine the possible causes here. The glands in the body are pituitary gland located at the base of the brain, the adrenal gland located above the kidneys, the thyroid gland located near wind pipe, the pancreas gland located behind the stomach, the sex glands located in the reproductive region.

The function of the pituitary gland is to produce hormones that control sex glands and the thyroid. It also produces two other hormones which control the fat deposit and the release of fat from cells. When these two work in tandem they balance each other. If the hormone that is responsible for the fat deposit is overproduced then the equilibrium is disturbed resulting in more fat deposit.

The adrenal glands are situated near the kidneys. It’s function is to produce twenty important substances such as cortisone. If this gland becomes overactive,it results in a unique pattern of fat deposit in the body such as excessive fat at the hips, upper chest over the spine and the cheeks.

The thyroid gland is situated near the windpipe. It comes under the control of pituitary gland and it produces iodine rich hormone which has fat burning characteristics. An active thyroid gland produces enough of this hormone to keep the fat in check. If for some reason thyroid becomes less active, it results in less production of this hormone causing fat to be stored instead of burned. So an under active thyroid surely contributes to fat and weight gain.

The pancreas gland located near the stomach produces insulin which helps to convert carbohydrates into fat. Insulin tends to store fat and stops the release of the fat, resulting in overweight. Persons who are obese tend to have overactive pancreas gland.

The sex glands play a vital role in the reproductive system of the body. The sex glands in men and women are called testes and ovaries respectively. If the sex glands are removed for some reason such as accident, the man and the woman both tend to put on weight. This goes to show the effect of sex glands on putting on weight and fat

Important Weight Loss Basics

February 23rd, 2010

One of the most popular trend nowadays, especially for the ladies is to have a slim figure. That is why many people are determined to lose that excess weight. Losing weight is not as hard as it seems. It is not a mysterious process either. You just need to understand that it is just a matter of how much calories you are taking in and at the same time, how much of it do you effectively burn. To achieve weight loss is as easy as that.

Because we are living in a fast phase world, people have been so busy and would always want those instant remedies. That includes losing weight. But the fact is, it is not instant, unless you count surgeries and advance treatments such as liposuction and gastric banding. Though the market offers you instant weight loss pills, medicines and other commercial products, they most likely are ineffective and would probably cause various unwanted side effects. Losing weight the healthy and effective way takes time.

To lose a pound of your weight, you need to cut 3500 calories from your system. It is not a 1 day process though. You may do it gradually and step by step. Trim down those extra calories by modifying your activities and daily food intake.

You need to know first what your basal metabolic rate is. It is basically the amount of energy your body needed for vital function. It is energy that you need during your post-absorptive state or when your digestive system is inactive. This is the minimum amount of calories you need to take everyday. Just remember that the calculator is not always 100% accurate. As you progress from your weight loss diet or program, you need to make the necessary adjustments and adapt your body into it.

Second, know your activities, from the food you eat and the physical activities you are doing. You may need a calorie calculator for you to be able to know how much calories you burn while standing, sitting, lifting weights and exercising each day. You can also use a heart rate monitor which calculates how much calories you have burned. This is basically a journal of your daily calorie intake and output.

You must know how much calories you take. It is not hard to know how much calories you take these days. There are so many websites today that shows calorie count of different kinds of food, and you can make a list on what you drink and eat everyday.

Lastly, calculate your basal metabolic rate, add your calorie activity and then deduct the food calories from the total. If you are eating more calories than you are burning, you will probably gain weight, but if you are burning calories more than you eat, then you lose weight.

Exercise should also be part of your list. It is one of the most important factors for weight loss. Of course, different people would need different amount and quality of exercise. It depends on the person’s physical attributes and experience. Exercise 3 days per week for 20 to 40 minutes for your body to have time to adjust. If you are already used to it, you may take 1 to 2 hours of physical activities daily.

You may be figure conscious and want weight loss program that is applicable to your day-to-day routine. There are so many choose from; it is just a matter of staying discipline that helps you achieve this goal. You may want to read about weight loss tips

Techniques On Removing Unwanted Body Hairs

February 12th, 2010

Getting rid of hair for women is a typical process. Good hygiene for them now normally includes removing unsightly body and facial hair. Fine hair on the upper lip should be removed, as well as underarm hair. Preparing for bikini season isn’t just about getting rid of extra body flabs anymore. Display off bikini body for girls also means displaying off hairless arms and legs.

While hair removal is very common for the women, some “macho” men also remove their unwanted hair on the body. While the ladies won’t raise an eyebrow upon seeing a hairy man, they likely won’t be anxious to introduce themselves to him too. Some men understand that cutting or getting rid of their face and body hair is more appealing to ladies. It can also be that they find being hairless more comfortable and hygienic than being covered with their own hair.

Taking off unwanted hair is nothing new. The practice has been existing since the ancient civilization period. People are only continuing what they think works.

Those who wish to get rid of unwanted facial and body hairs can choose either to depilate or epilate. Depilating is the removal of the hair from above the surface of the skin, while epilating is removing the entire hair from root to tip.

In depilating, the most popular methods are shaving, trimming, and applying creams that break the protein bonds of the hair, ripping it from above the skin. Some also apply friction to buff away hair. Popular epilating styles include plucking, sugaring, threading, and waxing. And while these techniques are admittedly more painful, hair will take longer to grow back.

There are also permanent methods of removing and reducing hair. The first is electrolysis, the process of taking the hair off by applying electricity to a solid hair-thin metal probe slid into each hair follicle. This does localized damage to the areas that generate hair, therefore removing hair for good.

For permanent hair reduction, a favorite method is laser hair removal. As the name implies, it applies laser to cause localized damage in the area that causes hair growth. There is also the Intense Pulsed Light or IPL. Sometimes called as Flashlamps, this method uses light of several wavelengths to remove hair and treat several skin problems such as hyperpigmentation.

Each process differs on effectivity, cost, convenience, and the length of time the hair grows back. As each has its own pros and cons, always take extra caution each time you exercise any of the aforesaid methods.

There are so many myths out there and so many ‘diets’ that it can be very confusing. The important thing is to realize that eating well really can be simple. So, throw out all your outdated ideas about ‘dieting’ and create new habits with my top 10 nutrition tips:-

1. Divide your meals into 5 small meals spaced throughout the day

2. Never miss a meal, even if it is only a small snack

3. Eat approximately every 3 hours

4. Taper your meals: make breakfast your largest meal and dinner your smallest.

5. Make your last meal of the day at least 2 hours before bedtime

6. Eat a good choice of protein and carbohydrate at every meal. Never skip your protein. Aim for approximately 55% carbohydrates 30% protein and 15% ‘good’ fats at each meal.

7. Stop eating starchy carbohydrates at night (after about 3pm) eg: rice, pasta, potato, bread.

8. Have one cheat meal a week and enjoy it!

9. Always read food labels if you are not familiar with the product. Beware labels that claim to be diet food or low in fat, as they may contain high amounts of sugar.

10. Reduce alcohol intake.

If you are not already exercising regularly it is important that you start to incorporate a training program into your daily routine. You should be doing a combination of weight training and cardio training for best fat loss and body shaping results. If you are unsure of what training to do, make sure you seek professional advice as it really can make a difference to your outcome. As you can see, it really does not have to be hard! Of course change sometimes can be challenging, but try to slowly incorporate a couple of the above tips into your daily routine and before you know it you will be bursting with energy and dropping body fat!
